Who is faster

Hi friends,

Happy new month to everyone. This is the last month in 2011 and I am a believer that something can still be achieved this year. it is not over till it is over and God's willing we will all usher in 2012.

Since I  started writing here, I have been thinking of the path I want this blog to follow. I know it is my space and can write whatever  i like here but still feel like should have a niche. What do you guys think? I find myself wanting to write about parenting, relationships, general topics etc.  I guess would figure that out lter.

Is it really true that girls are faster than boys in the early years developments or it is just something that we have read and after a long time believe? I have a boy and a girl. My daughter stopped breastfeeding on her own at 5months, I came back from work one day and she just refused to nurse. She favored her bottle. At that time, I was sad cos I felt like she didn't need me anymore. Fastword to a year later, my son cannot get enough of that stuff. I stopped breastfeeding him at 15months  and that was cos my hubs intervened. Potty training, the li'l Miss was potty trained at 2.  Brume is still in pull-ups. He refuses to use the potty at 26months. Just this morning when I laid out his clothes minus  his Pull-up. He said "mam no chu-chu * the underwear had a train on it* If I leave that boy he will still be in diapers at 5. Maybe I overindulge him, I am now on 'Operation Pottytrain Brume  before 2012'. So I ask are girls faster than boys?

  1. You can do it all, it's your blog...just go with the flow!

I've heard time and time again that girls are faster than boys, I'm not sure if it's scientifically proven though...

  5. Girls are definitely faster than boys, it was hell trying to potty train my son, it became a prayer point in fact.. but guess what, after he finally stopped wearing diapers to sleep three weeks before his 3rd birthday he matured so fast it is amazing, i don't need to carry him to pee through the night and he does not wet the bed, God heard my prayers o, cos i was really frustrated with him...write as you are inspired jare, your life is made up of different stuff no? your blog should reflect that difference.

  6. I concur with the others, write how the spirit moves you. That is if you're just writing for writing sake, as you know our naija blog community dey kampe. if you want to go beyond, seeing as you have adsense on your blog, it may make sense to niche it to parenting, and think about your titles and keywords and stuff in order to drive google traffic to your blog.

As for children, I think each is different, boy or girl. I've seen slow girls and fast boys too (My mom runs a daycare). But I think 2 years is a good time to get serious with potty training.

PS, you won a book at the giveaway, please email me your mailing addy (myne @ mynewhitman.com)

  7. You changed your blog template and design. When the page opened, i wasn't sure if i was in the right blog :-). I think girls mature faster than boys. I'm not sure though. As for carving a niche for your blog, it all depends on you dear. You just do your thing and we will still follow you.

  8. I think it depends on the child. My little sister did not stop breastfeeding till she was a year and half even though my mum gave her the bottle from day one. Yeah you have to ensure potty training for the boy. A friend of mine started potty training for her girl from when she was 2months old oh.

  16. : @Lara Thanks for the comment too. I started potty training my daughter at 6 months too that was one of the reasons why she was fully potty trained early. I guess circumstances changed with the boy and I have not had real time to devote to it. I will get on it now. Thanks for your comments

  17. Gurls are generally faster than boys, not just in the early stage. They are the ones who start talking first and whose speeches get clearer first. And when growing up,they are the ones who develop into puberty first and i really could go on about it.LOL

  18. While I wish you the best with following one path (per your blog) am the kind of person that loves writing and reading about all sorts of issues in a blog.

And as for your kids, dont you think perhaps you are petting your son a bit more than your daughter? i.e every daughter is daddy's little girl and every son is mum's little man etc?

    Lovely blog. God bless

It can be whatever you want it to be. Me personally I don't like limiting myself to themes, I love to leave it and let it all happen organically.

Take care eh and have a blessed and joyous holiday.

  23. ...please share your heart. But, I want to go with Myne's comment, I feel you may have a strength on parenting.

...Girls faster than Boys... *no idea o o o* I am an aspiring father, so I would come back when I have a go at it...lol

  24. Wish I could give you an accurate answer on that, but as it is, I'm a growing authority on little girls, since I have 3 now and no boys. I'd like to think that every child is their own little character & some boys may be quicker than girls, but at the same time, its hard not to compare one child to another.Generally speaking tho, as little boys we just didnt get it, but eventually figure it out, so dont sweat it, he'll be outta diapers in his own good time

  25. I am with you on this topic. The girls are faster in some areas based on my personal experience. I have a boy and a girl as well, both were potty trained at about a year and were both breastfed for 14 and 18 months respectively ,infact it took my girl longer because she wont just let go. Howerer, my 10 year old boy still has occasional accident here and there, but the little miss has never had any since she was potty trained.Girls are also quicker at learning new things and making friends. All in all their personality is also a factor

  26. Everyone seems to have said it all... i feel though that somehow we mums take it a bit more easy from no 2 downwards. As in for the 1st borns we're more energetic and want everything done properly down to the last tee!
My 1st son was potty trained before he was 2... i'm still wearing diapers for no 2 and dont even bother moving him near his potty sef ***rolls eyes**

  27. No answer. I tend to think irls are more aware...but then again, its different for each child. My friends girl took of her night pampers at 2yrs...a year later she's still dry. Her elder bros wears grandpa pampers at 5yrs :(

Don't pidgin hole yourself dear..unless you've got other 'future' plans. Just go witha flow..

  28. lol @ operation potty train

I used to feel that my blog should be a certain way and my posts even had a format but it took more time than i have now and it feels great to just come here and unload. My focus is still on the Lord but my posts are random and all over the place. I completely understand your wanting to concentrate on one thing but maybe you should try everything first and see which is more fulfulling (depending on what you're looking for/ why you blog).

Thanks for sharing jare, this was a funny read and yeah, i really think girls mature faster than boys

  31. You have to do what you want with your blog...that's why you are the administrator! Good luck with your plans for 2012!

  32. AWwww, ur babies sound cute! (i love babies). Yea, i guess girls grow up quicker than boys. I remember my sister's son didn't stop breast feeding until he was 18 months (that was by force ooo)

I think i like parenting. Yes, write on parenting so that some of us who are yet to start the process will have something to fall back on when we start...lol. Nice blog!

  33. I think they are. But then again, I am a girl :). I would love to read about parenting even though I'm not a parent... yet.

  35. I concur with most of the comments. Write as you're led. You already have a committed readership.
As for parenting, my lil observations reveal that girls are usually faster at the early stages and then later slow down.

  36. Happy new year to you and yours, sister. Made a comment earlier and it disappeared, lol.

Every child is different. I don't think it's necessarily gender related. Boys seem to love breastfeeding more though. All my friends agree. Lol.
