Day 2 : 10 Likes and Dislikes

Today I will be sharing my likes and dislikes.

There are many things I like and some I don't like. This will not be in any order, just random as they pop into my head.

1. I love music; Afro-pop * or whatever Nigerian and African music is called*, Pop, Country, R & B/Soul, Jazz, New age, Soundtrack, Hip hop, some rap music, latino, soft rock, inspirational music, high life... the list goes on. If it has message I can hear and understand and a good beat, I am sold. That is why I still find it difficult understanding classical music. I guess it is too high class for me.

2. I love books. Books in all forms, be it in hardcopy, electronic or audio. I love them all. While some people find it refreshing to shop or even window shop, I just love being among books. I visit the library almost everyday, even when I don't have any business there. I was visiting the Barnes and Noble in my neighborhood before but after going there so many times and not really buying any books, I didn't want them to think I had a problem, I stopped and switched to the library instead. One of my friends sons doesnt like riding in my car because he has to listen to a book sometimes. My children are used to it now, they pick their own books too, so they get to listen to something they enjoy.

3. I love quiet times. Just taking time to appreciate the life I have been blessed with and giving thanks for it.

 4. I love watching movies; RomCom, Thrillers, Comedies, Drama. Lately I have been watching a lot of Bollywood movies

5. These days it is rare seeing people who are nice for no reason.  I like it when people are nice just because.

5

6. I dislike rude people. People who try to force their own opinions on others. Can we agree to disagree please?

6

7. I dislike impatience in driving. When people whip from lane to lane when you see the traffic isn't really moving annoys me.

 7

8. People who talk so loudly on their phones in public places and you are forced to listen in to their conversation. No- No.

      8

9. Still on phone conversations, you know how someone is on the phone and just because they are trying to dodge talking to that person, they say 'hey, Eve is even here with me and would like to say hello'. If I didn't indicate in anyway that I wanted to talk to that person earlier, please dont put me on the spot like that. I don't like it.

10. On social media, I dislike it when people say "ffg, pls ff bk". What if I don't want to follow you. I am also not a fan of shorthand writing. Some are so difficult to understand.

October 30 days blogging challenge

Hey guys,I hope you all are doing fine? I still can't believe this is the last day of the month. Countdown to the end of this month. Hope everyone had a good month and at least one reason to smile? September was okay, had its moments. The little ones are back in school. The novelty wore off after the first couple weeks, now all I hear is 'mommy there are too many school days', whine, whine. It  almost got me thinking about home schooling at a point * even researched it*. Bad for them though cos they have no choice but to go, at least for now.

One of my goals for the month of October it to put up more posts. I managed two post for the whole of September, I know I can do better so I choose to do better. To help me with this goal, I have decided to take on a 30days blogging challenge. There are so many different types out there, from relationship, to motherhood, to weight-loss. I was almost giving up on what to choose, I just decided to close my eyes and pick one and Voila!

I will start the challenge tomorrow.

Tomorrow, October 1st, Nigeria will celebrate 53 years of Independence. As a country, we are still experiencing growing pains. Sometimes it seems like they are growing pains in reverse * at least to me*. I wish Nigerians home and abroad a peaceful independence celebration.

September is here!!!

Happy new month!!!

I don't know why I am so happy when a new month starts on a Sunday, but I really am. I woke up this morning like I was going to change the world * or at least change my own world*.  I felt like there is still hope, another chance to do whatever it is I want to do and that is a  so comforting.

I just love new beginnings.

We had a very busy summer and I am a bit happy that it is coming to an end. It already feels like fall over here, all the beautiful sun we enjoyed is now resting behind clouds. Just a week before the kids go back to school. They can't wait. My son who has never gone to school is super excited too. I pray they continue to enjoy school.

What if I do nothing?

I was listening to a program the other day and one of the subs was on failure or more like the fear of failure and this guy was saying he was so scared of failing that he will never take on anything that he is not 105% sure he will not succeed in. He will not talk to a girl if he is not sure that she will say yes, he has a passion for photography but according to him, he is sure he will fail so he is not even going to try it out at all. As  I listened to him talk about all the things he wanted to do but can't do because of his fear, I was like this guy is not serious. What kind of life is he living? There is no guarantees to this life we live, so failure will definitely happen sometimes; Stop setting yourself up for failure buddy, get over yourself and do what you need to do * that sounded insensitive*

On second thought, I just cast my stone on the poor fellow, because somehow I am just like him. * Is it true that we are more critical of others on the same issues we regard as flaws in us?* I am also scared of failing.Sometimes I am afraid of not fulfilling my purpose, I am scared of this parenting thing and maybe all my yelling has scarred my kids for life, I am afraid of blogging and putting myself out there even though I want to do more of it. So in some situations, I do nothing. Since I am not faced with vulnerability of failure, I feel safe.

"What will happen if you do nothing?"
"Nothing"
"Wrong!!!!"

When you do nothing, the situation gets worse.
When you do nothing to a troubled relationship, it fizzles and ends
When you do nothing about an unhealthy lifestyle, you are looking at sickness, overweight, and health issues in the face
When you do nothing about following your dreams, they don't just remain dreams but they enter into the regret and i-could-have folder and might cause you to resent yourself sometimes.
When I lock myself up in my world of 'I am scared of doing stuff', I deprive myself of all the opportunities and learning experiences that might present themselves if I only tried.

So doing nothing, though very easy to do, not only plays out our worse case scenario is more expensive that doing something.

There is actually nothing that is not recoverable after trying and failing. When we try and fail, instead of giving up, calling ourselves failures, we should ask ourselves, how bad is it? is it recoverable and how can I learn from that experience?

There are so many people who failed initially but eventually became successful.
Thomas Edison failed 1000 times before he succeeded at the light bulb.
Abraham Lincoln failed so many time before he became one of the greatest leaders.
Michael Jordan didn't make it into his high school basketball team, today we call him one of the best basketball players of all time.
Bill Gates, Walt Disney, Oprah, they all had failures that eventually became success stories.
There is always a learning point in every experience. Why do I continue to limit myself from learning?

Achieving any goal involves risk and vulnerability. The push we need to walk on  that path should be the thought,'what if it works out?' That right there should be our positive incentive.

This is a reminder even for me as I type this, doing nothing will always cost me more than taking a shot at it and learning from trying.
